Let's Go Gold Panning in the Stunning Turon river, Right in Town at Sofala NSW.

Australia's Oldest Surviving Gold town is open for business and in the tradition of the rich mining history you too can become part of our gold prospecting history.

Since the 1850's Sofala has been known as a place rich in Gold and is one of the few "Gold Towns" still around today.

Original Buildings, a Unique Main street, a Traditional Pub and a Fantastic museum are just a few of the highlights of the town. The Beautiful TURON River runs right through town as well, adding to the natural Valley's beauty.

Load up the crew and in Just 40 Minutes from Bathurst, you'll be here in Sofala Immersed in its history.
About 2.5 -3.5 Hours from Sydney, depending on which part you live in of course. Oh and Traffic.... But that won't be a problem here.

Aussie Detectorist will get you up and running and into the feel with a gold panning session, right in town.

We will teach you how to use probably the most common gold prospecting tool, The Humble Gold Pan. You'll then be set loose to see if you can find a bit of Sofala Gold to take home with you.

(Or sell to the gold buyer.)

Fortunes have been made with such a simple device and technique. We will have you up and running in just a few minutes. Then it's over to you to refine your skills and try and find some of the Gold that's been left behind.

Hints and tips for the Day:

  • Gumboots make life so much easier as you can stand in the water. If you have 'em, Bring'em.
  • A small stool can be handy and your knees will thank you for it.
  • Gloves are Optional, it can make it a bit easier on the hands.
  • Bring Water, we are surrounded by it but it may not be suitable for Drinking purposes. (Having said that my tanks at home in Sofala are full of it.)
  • After the tour you can have some lunch in Town at the Cafe or General Store. Then you can go for a walk around town, head up to the AMAZING Museum ($5 to get in). Or go for a drive, up or down River and maybe find a good swimming hole or camping space for future reference.
Of course you can also Have a schooner at the Pub, That's what I'll probably do.
  • Camping is plentiful and FREE along the River both sides of town.
The Sofala Showgrounds is available for camping at $15 per person per night with Hot showers and Flushing Loos.

Sofala is a great Place and even Fishing for Trout and those Horrible carp is an option for the afternoon.

So come out to Sofala, Have a bit of a gold pan and immerse yourself in the History of our Beautiful Little town.

We rely heavily on Visitors like yourself, so even if your not coming Gold panning, pop out and Say G'day.

Private Tours and Group Bookings are Available. Great for team Building and something different for the crew to do. Just get in touch via the contact us form
